Show your process, not just a pretty screenshot

A portfolio should explain a problem, what you did and what happened. If you are a designer, describe your constraints and the decisions you made. If you provide local services, explain the work steps and show an authorized before-and-after image. A list of project titles without context gives potential clients little reason to trust your service.

Use honest sample projects

When you are starting, self-initiated demonstrations and redesign concepts are valid. Label them as demos or personal projects; do not present them as paid commissions. Show a finished output, a few process notes and the skills involved. This is stronger than posting invented reviews or customer logos without permission.

Choose what to display

Three clear, relevant examples usually communicate more than twenty unrelated thumbnails. For each example, include a title, category, a short description and an optional external link. Avoid publishing confidential customer documents, private contact details or images without appropriate rights. You do not need to upload large media files to a website platform if you can link to authorized hosted assets.

Make the portfolio useful on phones

Many visitors reach a portfolio through a social link on their phone. The first screen should say who you are and what service you offer. Keep cards readable, use meaningful image alt text, allow enough spacing between links and make it easy to contact you. A broken image or inaccessible button can undermine otherwise good work.

Keep it current

Remove dead project links, revise out-of-date descriptions and replace weak examples as you complete stronger work. If you offer different services, group related projects by category. Accuracy and relevance matter more than inflated numbers.
